Up, Up, and Away to Africa

The Children at Risk Discipleship Training School left this evening for two months in Uganda and Kenya!

The staff and students have been back for about a week since Christmas break and it has been a flurry of activity as they’ve prepared crafts and gifts and snacks and mini-sermons and Sunday School lessons! They managed to fit it all in two vans and got to the airport in Chicago with plenty of time to spare.

Here’s a quick summary of what they’ll be up to:

They’ll spend about a month in Kenya, working with orphans, street kids, and young women forced into prostitution. They will reach out to schools, slums, and communities affected by HIV. They will do evangelism through drama, music, testimony, preaching and one-on-one encounters. They will also help a young couple who is pioneering a children’s home and serve them in any way they can!

They will travel by land between Kenya and Uganda. In Uganda, they will work with an orphanage of about 100 kids who’ve lost parents to AIDS or war, as well as a primary school connected to the orphanage that educates over 300 kids. They will also spend time working with refugees in Northern Uganda.
