The Indian Territory was established in 1834 and was the destination of what has been called the “trail of tears.” By 1898 when the various tribes were given their “allotment” of land there were 29 Federally recognized tribes in the area. The Oklahoma Land Run was held in 1898. Today there are seven Tribal governments within a 30 mile radius of Apache. This county has been described as having inner city problems within a rural setting. Outreach possibilities include children’s ministry, Vacation Bible School, assisting tribal elders, and work projects at various churches whose congregations are predominately Native American. Come and experience the richness and beauty of the various Native American cultures in this area.
